The guides can be used to check the installation of side rails on adult beds. They show how to measure gaps and clearances - this includes the minimum height of the side rails, and safe gaps between the bed, mattress, and side rails to minimise the risk of entrapment and falls, They comply with MHRA guidance on bedrails and BSN 606,01–2–5 2–20. However they're not suitable for children.
Height of the top edge of the side rail above the mattress without compression must be greater than or equal to 220 mm
Gaps between elements of the side rail and between the side rail and mattress platform must be less than 120 mm
The gap between headboard and end of side rail must be less than 60 mm
The gap between footboard and end of side rail must be less than 60 mm or greater than 318 mm
